Who will be the Next Aggie Star?
Ben Oman, the new Aggie Star, was “too legit to quit,” got a “bow bow bow” and “got ‘er done,” according to the celebrity judges Tuesday night at the Aggie Star competition. Oman played his guitar with the fastest fingers the judges have ever seen in order to gain the title Aggie Star and $250 dollars.
The competition included 13 contestants with a variety of different talents, from guitarists to singers to a yo-yo professional who performed in the TSC auditorium. Anyone was allowed to signed up for the competition just by going to the ASUSU Senate Office. The contestants performed songs like “Home” by Michael Buble, “Tribute” by Tenacious D and “Sorry For Love” by Celine Deon. Vanilla Ice, Cida Lee and Larry the Cable Guy were the guest celebrity judges for the competition, and provided feedback similar to American Idol judges after every contestant performed. During the competition, random prizes donated by the Bookstore were given away in a raffle and audience members were called on to participate. The Aggie Star winner was decided by the audience placing washers, which were given to them at the door, in buckets for the contestant they liked the most, and the contestant with the most washers won.
Aggie Star was sponsored by the college of Agriculture and the college of Education.
“This is the second year Aggie Star has been going on and the first year we were able to sponsor it,” said Amy Kite, Ag Council PR Chair.
The money earned at the competition will be used for scholarships in our individual colleges Kite said. This is the last big fling until the end of the year when the new senators will take office, Kite said.
“This was a good idea and a really fun event for USU students to see and participate in,” Kite said.
