Blotter: Police news from the campus and community
Jan. 23
* It was reported to campus police that two parking gate arms in the C-1 parking lot were stolen.
* Campus police took a harassment report from a female student concerning a male individual who has been acting strangely toward her.
* Campus police responded to the USU Bookstore on an intrusion alarm activated when a custodian took too long to exit the building after setting the alarm for the night.
Jan. 24
* Campus police responded to Snow Hall on a fire alarm. It was discovered that a pull station was activated. Witnesses in the area identified a possible male suspect who was later confronted and admitted to sounding the false alarm.
Jan. 25
* Campus police responded to a parking problem at the parking meters on the east side of the Engineering Building. The owners of four vehicles were informed to move their vehicles so the snow could be moved out of the parking lot.
Jan. 26
* The Waste Management driver reported to campus police that he hit the exit gate in the A-2 parking lot.
* A delayed report was given to campus police about a delivery truck driving at high speed on the emergency access sidewalk in front of the Biology/Natural Resources building. The delivery truck driver will be contacted and warned for his driving behavior.
* Campus police responded to a traffic accident in the TSC B parking lot. The complainant’s vehicle was hit by the door of the vehicle next to him causing $50 damage. Police documented the event and will make contact with the owner of the other vehicle.
* The USU Bomb Squad was asked to assist Smithfield police with a suspicious package. Further investigation found no hazard.
Jan. 27
* It was reported to campus police that a motorist nearly struck a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Police were able to make contact with the driver, and at the request of the complainant, police issued the driver a warning.
* Campus police observed a disorderly individual in the Parking Office. The individual calmed down after police talked with him.
* Campus police spoke with an individual who was upset about his cell phone being accidentally discarded by a Hub employee.
* Campus police received a report of a group of people possibly siphoning gas from another vehicle on the north side of the Engineering Building. Police were unable to find any activity of this kind.
Jan. 29
* Campus police responded to a report of a lewd sculpture near the Taggart Student Center Patio. Police are investigating the matter.
* It was reported to campus police that a student was stuck in a stalled elevator in Mountain View Tower. Police were able to restart the elevator.
