COLUMN: Journal of an insomniac

Justin Berry

Some people suffer from hay fever (so do I for that matter) and some suffer from obsessive compulsive behaviors – but for me, it is all about insomnia. So here is a glimpse into the journal of a certified insomniac.

Midnight: I am sitting here wondering what I should do next. I just finished reading the entire works of Shakespeare even though I only needed to read “Othello.” I guess I was a little overzealous. Oops.

1:15 a.m.: Ok, I just discovered the paint on my ceiling makes really cool shapes. I have a tree house full of dogs. I am not sure how the hell they got in the tree, but they seem to like it up there. I also found three different faces. They look sort of like a bad Van Gogh, but hey, who am I to criticize ceiling art at this time in the morning?

2:26 a.m.: I just discovered that I have new roommates in The Sims computer game. This is OK. I was getting bored by myself. At least I now have someone to play with. I don’t know if we are really going to get along, but as long as they keep laughing then I am happy they moved in. If that burglar comes back though I am going to be a little upset.

3:00 a.m.: Party of Five time. I am so excited. I don’t think I have missed an episode for the past two months. This is just starting to get good. So far, I think I have seen about three of the six seasons. It is a good thing. I would go to eat at their restaraunt. I think it looks like a hip place. I have often thought of drinking myself to sleep, but I don’t want to be Bailey. And Charlie dealing with cancer has been a very heart-wrenching topic. Some families have all the problems. And Claudia dealing with her gay violin teacher was just one story line that kept this whole show interesting.

5:09 a.m.: God is punishing me for all of my transgressions. I am certain there is no other answer. My upstairs neighbour just got up to get in the shower and go to woooooooo………
