Statesman readers should thicken skins

Brent Goodwine

Editor,

This may come as a shock to many USU students, but here it is: Life is offensive. But all is not lost, being offended is still a choice. The only way to avoid being offended is to live in a plastic bubble cut off from all media and outside interactions.

I am a Utah native and a member of the predominate religion here in the land of milk and honey. This is not a Mormons vs. the world issue. If something in life is offensive it is best to move on and ignore it without making an inappropriate stink about it. An article in last Wednesday’s Statesman by Safiyyah Ballard on race relations in Logan showed that there are more important and pressing issues than a WWII cartoon pin-up.

I know the owner and manager of the Persian Peacock. She is a very thoughtful and socially responsible woman who would never do anything to demean or degrade her own gender.

Let’s thicken our emotional and social epidermis and choose our battles wisely. With all the problems that we’re facing, why waste our energy over something so trivial and inconsequential?
