Laws regarding fetuses are inconsistent

Editor,

I am writing in response to the article by Mikaylie Kartchner on the reversal of Roe vs. Wade. In this article, Kartchner tried to make abortion into an issue of woman’s rights in order to support her own agenda. She even went so far as to state that, “Whether or not you agree with abortion is not really the issue here.” If that’s not the issue, then what is? Our whole governmental system is organized to allow each individual a chance to express their own views or beliefs through voting.

The real issue here is whether an unborn child should be entitled to any form of protection that would be offered to any other living human being. Recall the Mark Hacking case. Why is it that, if a man murders a pregnant woman, he can be charged for two murders, but that same woman may kill her fetus and call it woman’s rights? If an unborn child is considered to be alive, then abortion infringes on the rights of the child much more than the lack of abortion would infringe on the rights of the mother.

As for the phrase, “as hard as it is, people must have the right to choose,” I believe those choices are made before the child came into existence. This is not an issue of women’s rights, it is an issue of protecting the life of an unborn child that can’t protect itself.
