Benefit for March of Dimes on Tuesday

Need some fun before finals?

The third annual comedy night will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Delta Sigma Phi fraternity is putting the show on that features the Wise Guys Comedy Club, from Salt Lake and Ogden.

Matt Black, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering and the activities chair, said the event will cost $5, and all proceeds will go toward the March of Dimes.

“The wise guys are donating their time for the March of Dimes, which is a prevention and education organization focused on premature babies and caring for little children,” Black said.

Delta Sigma Phi has been putting on the Wise Guys comedy night for the past three years.

“I think this will be the most successful event that we’ve had so far,” Black said about the show.

Art exhibition held throughout the week

Seniors majoring with a degree in fine arts are presenting their final collegiate work Monday through Friday this week in the Twain Tippetts Art Gallery in the Chase Fine Arts Center.

John Neely, the art department head, said the exhibit is a graduation requirement for students earning a bachelor of fine arts degree.

“This is a far more important event than just a graduate requirement,” he said. “For them, it marks the beginning of their professional career.”

According to a press release, the 74 students participating in the exhibit are displaying paintings, photography, sculptures, illustrations, animations, ceramics, drawing, graphic design and printmaking.

The show is open to the public and gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Wright Flyer to be on display Tuesday

This may be the last time Cache Valley can see the world-renowned USU Wright Flyer. The plane will be on display at the Logan Library on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. David Widauf, the project director, will speak on the successes of the USU Wright Flyer on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

The Logan Library is located at 255 N. Main St. The plane will be displayed on the south side of the building.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of powered flight, Utah State University mechanical and aerospace engineering students and aviation technology students, with assistance from the university’s College of Engineering and Space Dynamics Laboratory, have designed and built a futuristic flying replica of the Wright Flyer using space-age materials.

The USU Wright Flyer had more than 300 successful flights. The Flyer created history as it is the only Wright Flyer replica to circle Huffman Prairie Flying Field since the Wright Brothers. For more information visit www.usuwrightflyer.org.

English students to present multimedia

USU students in the interactive media class, English 5410, will present their projects in a Multimedia Showcase Tuesday from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. in the Ray B. West Building, Room 101.

Student developers created seven instructional multimedia projects, including an essay-writing CD tutorial, an encyclopedic reference Web site for teaching about Elizabethan English, and a Web site highlighting the works of May Swenson and the upcoming May Swenson Symposium. Projects were also developed for Eskimo Adventures, an instructional program for teaching children about the lives of American Eskimos.

All are invited to the showcase to see the projects and meet the developers and their clients. Refreshments will be served.
