OUR VIEW: Stop the whining and get to the Spectrum

Utah State fans now have a new definition of “March Madness.”

Call it “March Anger.”

As in “Why the heck aren’t we in the NCAA tournament?”

Stew Morrill can make the case for the team as well as anyone. But as he said Sunday, whining about the travesty isn’t going to change anything. Life in the Big West means that you have to win the tourney bid to make “The Big Dance.”

The one consolation Utah State’s rabid fans have in being asked to the “I didn’t get a date to the real dance” NIT is that they will get to show up one last time this year in the Spectrum to support the team against Hawaii Wednesday night.

The True Blue fan support the Aggies have received this year has been one of the highlights of the year.

Morrill pointed out again Sunday that the intimidation opposing teams feel also extends to athletic directors from bigger schools who are not too excited about facing the Aggies in Logan. This may create scheduling problems for the Aggies, but the problem of too much fan support is one any team would love to have.

Nowhere was this support more evident than last weekend at the Big West Tournament. Utah State fans filled the Anaheim Convention Center with a sea of blue deep enough to make a Smurf die of happiness.

Keep up the good work, Aggie fans. Bring your “A” game to the Spectrum on Wednesday to make Hawaii wish it had stayed home on the beach.
