Amigos beat Cambridge Court in intramural volleyball, Catholics next
The Amigos beat Cambridge Court in straight games while the Catholics beat the Rusty Pitchforks to set up a match-up of undefeated teams this Thursday in CoRec League F intramural volleyball.
The Amigos showed they could play as a team as they won 25-19 and 25-22 to remain undefeated through their first two matches of the intramural season.
“We got what we wanted and that was a win,” Amigo Brad Schow said.
The Amigos had to play two people down for the first points of the opening game since they didn’t have equal representation of men and women. As a result Cambridge Court was up for the first minutes of the game.
When Cambridge Court led 18-16 the Amigos made a run with the help of their serve. Craig Perry and Alison Neves served out the last six points to put the Amigos up one game.
In the second, Schow was instrumental for the Amigos as his hitting and hustle helped to keep them in the game. One of the smallest players on the court, Schow was able to dominate the game unlike anyone else, with good jumping ability and his savvy for the game that comes from years of playing.
Even with his effort the game was back and forth until the Amigos made another run late to close out the game and give them the win.
The Amigos believe that their biggest rival may be the Catholics.
“It will be a tough game,” Schow said. “We’ll have to play pretty hard to come out with a win.
In the other League F game the Catholics beat the Rusty Pitchforks 25-20 and 25-16. The Catholics are also undefeated. This Thursday the Catholics and the Amigos will play to see which team can gain the upper hand in the league at the halfway point of the season.
Derek Dopp of the Catholics said the key to their win was the intensity of the game.
“We just played together as a team pretty well,” said Tyrell Philpott, also of the Catholics.
“It’s the biggest game of our season,” Dopp said of Thursday’s matchup.
