Ag golf team finishes 10th
By G. Christopher TerryStaff Writer After playing well on the first 36 holes at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, the Aggies couldn’t keep it rolling over the final 18, sliding to 10th place in a field of 17. Coach Dean Johansen said, “I was very happy with the first two rounds, the third round was a little disappointing.” “We’ve got a young team,” he said. “They’ll handle it better next time.” The Air Force-hosted tournament was also won by the Falcons, by four strokes over Weber State. Boise State’s Graham Delaet was the individual medalist, shooting 206. Brett Black and Brendon Ehlers were the individual leaders for USU, tying for 26th place by shooting 222. Ehlers, in particular, opened up hot by shooting 69 in the initial round. Behind Black and Ehlers, the Aggies were in sixth place after saturday’s action but faded on Sunday to tally a final score of 893. “We had some good things happen on the first day – over the course of the first 36 holes we had some very good things happen,” said Johansen about his team’s play on Saturday. Other Aggies who placed at the Gene Miranda Invitational included Jared Humphries, who tied for 38th place; Preston Otte, who tied for 43rd and Jake Blair who finished in a tie for 81st.-graham@cc.usu.edu
