Blue and White Debate

Did Marty Schottenheimer get stabbed in the back?
Stabbed in the back, sure. Did he deserve it? Maybe. I think if you can’t win the Super Bowl with LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates and Shawne Merriman, you probably at least need to do something different. What really gets me is when did San Diego become a huge sports city? I could see this happening in Dallas or New York, but San Diego? They are more famous for a whale than any sports team.
Duke not in the top 25
This is really the moment I’ve been waiting for longer than I can remember. I hate Duke. I hate the players that come out of Duke. I respect Coach K, but I still … I only dislike him, I guess. I’ll go even further, I hope they don’t make the tournament. Yeah that’ll show ’em. I’m sure they won’t spend the rest of the year outside of the top 25 because the media loves them, but not this member of the media. Go UNC.
Most manly sport
UFC pummels every other sport in terms of manliness. You have two guys who are determined to hurt, maim or even kill each other. And why? Just for the sheer joy of it. Just for pride. It has some important elements of another very manly thing – the bar fight. It just lacks pool cues, shards of broken beer bottles and a bar, complete with glass and bottles, to run your opponent across after you’ve knocked his teeth out.
Worst sports analyst There are a lot of sports analysts that suck. Yeah they suck, and I’d have used a stronger word, but this is a family-oriented publication. But the worst of the worst is Phil Simms. Some Sundays, Phil is so bad he almost forces me to turn off a football game. I’m going to repeat that – turn off a football game. That’s a sin. Phil Simms robs me of the joy usually associated with watching football, and that’s why he’s the worst. He’ll burn in hell for his transgression.
Rant
I want someone to explain to me why I don’t love NASCAR. I love all the things associated with NASCAR – fast cars, loose women, beer, southern rock and mullets. So why can’t I get into this? Any sport that originated from bootlegging liquor should be right up my alley. Any sport that involves drinking – done by fans – and driving – taken care of by the men in the ad-covered suits – should be right up my alley. I even love product placement. Why? Please help me, somebody.

Should Marty Schottenheimer be fired?
His team went 14-2 and lost in the playoffs to the three-time Super Bowl champions, the New England Patriots. He had one year left in his contract. Let the man coach out the final year and see how things work out. Every year the team has been healthy, and he has had a good record. If they choked again next year then I’d fire him, but he earned that last year.
Duke not in top 25
I am sure that when Dick Vitale heard this, he had a heart attack. His first words were probably “Where’s J.J.? They need Reddick. He’s awesome.” Well Dick, J.J. is gone and all I can say is it is about time. Duke is always overrated, and they have not looked good in their last four games, so they deserve to be out.
Most Manly Sport?
I have to say UFC on this one because, simply put, it is awesome. In no other athletic event is there so much raw strength and toughness. These guys get punched, kicked, kneed, elbowed and hit in any other possible way in almost any place on the body. You have to have guts to be an Ultimate Fighter.
Most Annoying Analyst?
Go Dukies! Can you believe it? What a diaper dander. I hate Dick Vitale. He is so biased toward Duke and the rest of his boys in the ACC and the other big conferences. He did redeem himself a little by choosing Jaycee Carroll as the National Player of the Week. Bill Walton is in a close second.

The world that we live in is full of crap. Every day if you turn on the news, all you see is violence, death and war. That’s why I love sports, aside from T.O., steroids and a few occasional incidents, sports gives us a release from all of the crap of daily living. Whether you like to play, watch or attend, sports are awesome. Let’s keep it that way. Whether you are competing for a school team or like to play for fun, remember that sports should bring out the best in all of us.
