Utah Opera chorus auditions announced

Chorus auditions for Utah Opera’s 2004-05 season will take place on April 7 and April 21 from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. There are openings for all voice types.

For the audition, prospective choristers must prepare one aria or song, approximately three to four minutes in length and demonstrate excellent vocal and dramatic presentation skills.

The song must be performed from memory. A professional accompanist will be provided or singers may bring their own accompanists. Sight-reading ability will also be tested at the audition.

Outdoor leadership seminar to be held

The University of Utah Outdoor Recreation Program and the National Outdoor Leadership School are hosting the second annual Intermountain Student Outdoor Leadership Seminar (ISOLS.)

ISOLS is designed to help build leadership skills among college-age students interested in leading student outdoor trips or pursuing a career in the outdoor education/recreation industry. The $100 registration fee includes lodging and six meals. For more information, call (801)-581-8516 between Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The seminar will be hosted at the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, Wyo. It is scheduled for April 1 through 3.

Peace Corps open house is Wednesday

A Peace Corps open house and special presentation by a returned volunteer is scheduled for Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the University Inn, Room 510.

Peace Corps has programs in agriculture, education, health, business and environment. All expenses are paid and extensive training is provided. Applications are now being accepted for 2004-05 openings.

Quest for best at Logan Summerfest

The Logan Parks and Recreation Department invites all performers who are looking for exposure, a place to perform and a way to get publicity.

Performers are invited to get involved in the Quest for the Best at the Summerfest 2004 Entertainment Series, scheduled for June 5 at Willow Park in Logan.

Quest for the Best is a talent search for Summerfest. Winners of the competition will receive a $300 paid gig at the Summerfest Art Faire and Music Festival to be held June 17 through 19 at the Cache County Fairgrounds. All details, including the duration of the set and date will be determined at a later date. In addition to playing at Summerfest, each winner will get a gig at a local Cache Valley restaurant, a demo CD recording session, airtime on a local radio station and a KSM Guitar gift certificate.

Movie to be shown at USU for charity

Warm the Heart, a student-run MHR group, will be showing a charity fundraiser movie, “School of Rock,” Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall.

Tickets cost $4 at the door or $3 if paid in advance (see the table set up on the first floor of the Taggart Student Center or call Brandon at 760-9375). All proceeds will go to Reach the Children, Inc. to help support deprived children in Africa.

A raffle will be held after the movie. Prizes include Beaver Mountain all-day ski lift tickets, gift certificates to local restaurants and more.
