New bandwith connection may wind its way to Cache Valley
Logan business owners may soon have a new choice in Internet connection providers.
A project that has been endorsed by the Cache Chamber of Commerce and has been in the works for two yearswould include a new fiber optics cable being routed to Cache Valley.
Randy Sorenson of RSA wants to bring another bandwidth connection to the valley to give business owners a better choice of providers.
At Tuesday’s Logan Municipal Council meeting, the council discussedthe advantages and disadvantages to bringing another bandwidth connection to compete with the current provider, Qwest.
Sorenson said his company would at first only cater to businesses, not to residential needs. The advantage of another connection to compete in a monopolized marketplace such as Cache Valley, is a “substantial savings to the business community,” Sorenson said.
RSA was at the council meeting so permission for a franchise in Cache Valley at the Comcast office could be obtained. Some ammendments first had to be made to the proposal, and the amendments were passed by the council.
Sorenson said there “wasn’t a diverse path in Cache Valley” for a fiber connection, and wants people to save on their current Internet bills by offering lower prices than competitors.
If everything goes as planned, Sorenson and his company expect to have a fiber connection from Salt Lake City to Logan by 2005.
Logan Municipal Council meetings are now held the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:15 p.m. at 255 N. Main. All community members are invited to attend.
