Gymnasts win three team meet

The Aggie gymnastics team picked up a couple wins behind a season-high score of 193.350 and a meet-leading 38.900 from Meagan Lewis.

The Aggies (4-8, 0-3) defeated Texas Woman’s University, which scored a 191.125 and the Washington Huskies, who scored a 190.400.

Lewis claimed the all-around lead for the second-straight time after finishing with a 38.775 against Brigham Young University.

“I’m just excited that being here, I contribute to the team,” Lewis said. “That’s really what I wanted to get back to after being injured.”

Lewis raised her season high for the second time in a row and also notched a season high for her floor routine with a 9.800.

Utah State had to substitute Rachel Mandy in for the final floor routine because of a teammate’s illness. Mandy scored a 9.200.

“All kudos to her,” head coach Ray Corn said. She’s waited for years to throw that floor routine. It was a fun routine to watch. There were a few errors that kept her from a higher score.”

Lewis said, “A lot of people stepped up tonight. Everyone on the team deserves a big pat on the back because everybody did a good job tonight.”

Corn said, “I thought the kids did a great job tonight. We certainly would have liked to score higher than a 193.4, but it’s nice to win. That’s all I can say.”

The Aggies will next travel to Boise, Idaho, to face Boise State Friday.

“I think we learn from the beginning of the season and it’s really starting to kick in because we’ve learned different lessons from each meet and we’re able to apply those,” Lewis said.
