Harris earns BWC Sixth Man honor
Utah State’s Nate Harris was named the Big West Conference Sixth Man of the Year, league officials announced Tuesday.
It is the first time in the four-year history of the award that a USU player has won the honor. The award is voted on by the league’s 10 coaches. To be eligible for Sixth Man of the Year honors, a player must start less than half of the team’s games.
Harris, a 6-7 sophomore forward from Smithfield, Utah ranks second on the team in scoring (12.1) and rebounding (6.4) and leads the league in field goal percentage (69.7). Harris also ranks seventh in the league in rebounding and blocked shots (0.93). He was also named first-team all-Big West.
Harris started 12 of the last 13 games for Utah State and averaged 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 71.0 percent from the field. He began the year coming off the bench in 13 of USU’s 14 games and averaged 10.0 points and 5.6 rebounds in those contests, while shooting 68.2 percent.
The Big West Conference also announced two other Specialty Awards on Tuesday, as Idaho’s Rashaad Powell was named the Defensive Player of the Year, and Utah State’s Spencer Nelson was named the Hustle Player of the Year.
