Heritage Center to present Pioneer Run Cross Country Race

As a prelude to its “Spirit of ’47 Pioneer Jubilee”, the American West Heritage Center on highway 89-91 in Wellsville will be presenting a cross country race-the “2007 Pioneer Run”-at 7 am on Saturday, July 21. Both a 1 mile and 5 K races will be offered. Runners should pre-register and should be at the race site at the Heritage Center by 6:15 am to get ready for the race.

Pre-registration is $10 or $15 if done on site the morning of the race. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and some of the most magnificent rural running scenery in northern Utah. The trail winds through fields and meadows, all in the shadow of the magnificent Wellsville Mountains. Bison, antique machinery, and other rustic sights await runners. Prizes will be given to winners of various age categories.

The race is presented in cooperation with USU’s cross country team and faculty, as they prepare to host the Western Athletic Conference’s cross country tournament this coming Fall. “We love running at the Heritage Center,” indicated Gregg Gensel, USU track coach. “They’ve got amazing scenery out there, and the trails are challenging and gentle. Runners shouldn’t be surprised if they pass a buffalo or an antique tractor on the way. It’s a very unique experience.”
