How to make your vote count
There must be some other Democrats (gasp!) in the USU community. If they (1) are as politically frustrated as I am about living in a deep red state, (2) believe that the political system should not be limited to two parties, but (3) worry that Nader could spoil the election for Kerry, (4) believe that the electoral college system is antiquated and unfair, and (5) want to defeat Bush, then they should consider the following way of making their vote count. Take a look at www.VotePair.org. This organization pairs potential Kerry voters in “safe” states with potential Nader voters in “swing” states. An agreement is made between two individuals as to how each of them will vote. In this way, the rights of the multi-party system are honored, and the potential for damage to the Kerry campaign by a Nader vote in a swing state is reduced. Although the process is based on trust and is, therefore, not infallible, vote pairing has the potential to give Democratic Party voters in strongly Republican states an opportunity to make their vote count in the upcoming presidential election.Peter Ruben, 797-2490
