OUR VIEW: Kudos to ASUSU for bringing Switchfoot in
Most students at Utah State University love to go to concerts, but the price and travel time to go to Salt Lake for the big concerts just aren’t worth it for the most part.
The Associated Students of USU solved both of those problems by bringing Switchfoot to USU and making student tickets available for only $6 – something most every student can afford.
It’s been awhile since students at USU have heard a big-name band on campus. The last time was in 1998, six years ago, when the Indigo Girls played at the Spectrum.
The University of Utah and Utah Valley State College have been able to bring in big music names. Recently, UVSC brought in Jimmy Eat World and Switchfoot. The U brought in Elliott Smith, among others. Why hasn’t USU kept up with the rest of the big schools in Utah?
Every year for the past few years, during ASUSU campaigning, candidates have promised to bring someone big to Logan. But, years have gone by since someone has actually followed through on that promise.
We commend Kathy Leslie for almost single-handedly being responsible for bringing Switchfoot to town. Finally, someone who followed through on their promise.
Even if the concert didn’t sell out, it’s no reason to stop bringing big names in. Students need a break from their busy schedules and a concert is a good way to get away from their lives for a couple of hours.
