LETTER: Veteran says writer’s claims were nonsense

Editor,

As this will be the last Statesman I read, I want to ask the writer of “Pres. Bush’s lies need to be investigated” to do his own investigating. In Wednesday’s April 26th paper, the writer rambles off a bunch of irresponsible nonsense. His source for his nonsense, probably the biased media and his own ignorance. I understand that he has a right to his nonsense, he needs to get his facts straight. President Bush is being challenged. At every turn and on virtually every subject, he is faced with stark criticism. Much of this criticism is unjust.

Fist of the writer, makes the assumption that “We have failed the 26,000 coalition soldiers killed in this unnecessary war.” I would ask you; do you think those soldiers would agree with you? I don’t. I am a soldier and a veteran of our present conflicts. The soldiers I serve with also will not agree with you. Some are on their 2nd or 3rd deployment voluntarily.

Again, the writer’s irresponsible nonsense is clear: “Before Bush sent our GI’s … there had been no record of a suicide bomber in Iraq.” Prior to going into Iraq and ousting the tyrant, Suddam Hussein, Suddam had repeatedly supported suicide bombers. He even financed them, sending money for the relatives of suicide bombers. He would pay $10,000 to $25,000 dollars. Just read from this Islamic radio site April, 2002 (prior to the invasion). http://www.ummah.net/forum/shrowthread.php?t=169. I do not need to find sources for you. They are very attainable and not just from the internet.

It is sad that it took a catastrophe on America to awaken the government to respond, but President Bush did respond. He is eliminating terrorism and justly in my opinion. Too bad the prior administration did not act against al Qaeda when they attacked us numerous times. (Kenya, Dares Salam, WTC in 1993, USS Cole as a few examples.)

If his irresponsible nonsense represents those Friday Evening Protestors, then their patriotism is waning also. Get your facts straight from those who are involved and know what those facts are. Till then, shut the hell up.
