Mitten Tree gets clothes to keep families warm
Gloves, scarves, hats and socks are being donated to families in need for the Mitten Tree project, going until Dec. 6.
The USU Women’s Center Advisory Board has been sponsoring this event since 1988. All items will be donated to the Bear River Head Start program and the Child and Family Support Center.
“The Mitten Tree project has been warming Cache Valley hands, feet and hearts for more than 16 years,” said Patricia Stevens, director of the Women’s Center. “This is our thank you to the community for its support of the Women’s Center’s fundraising projects.”
Staci Nelson, a resident of Logan, said, “Giving to people in need makes me grateful for the things I have, because then I remember that there are others less fortunate than I am.”
It’s good to get in the spirit of Christmas, she said, and it makes it that much more special.
Andrea Tongish, a sophomore at USU, said this experience really does make you more grateful. This is a great project to get the community together, she said, to reach a goal that everyone can be happy about.
“I think it’s awesome that this community is so willing to help families in need,” Tongish said.
Nelson said as more people hear about this project, more people will be willing to donate as they understand that families are in need.
Tongish agreed, saying, “I think people should be educated about what’s going on in their community.”
The project will be going from Nov. 13 through Dec. 6. For more information on donating, contact Patricia Stevens at 797-1728.
