Stuff a Bus raises donations for needy families
The LTD and Aggie Shuttle will be on campus from the Dec. 4 to Dec. 8 for the annual “Stuff the Bus” fundraiser.
This is a fundraiser that gives USU students an opportunity to give during the Holiday season to families in Cache Valley.
“It’s just great to see how involved the community becomes,” said Leah Taylor, the service vice-president for ASUSU. “People are really willing to serve.”
Donations can be taken at any time by bus drivers, on both the city and university buses, or in the information booth in the TSC until Dec. 8.
Students can also donate through their colleges and the college who collects the most will win a traveling trophy. Last year the College of Education won.
Specifically, the Service Center is looking for monetary donations, new unwrapped toys, new clothes, toilet paper and soap.
Next week on the patio of the TSC an Aggie shuttle and the LTD bus will be parked on campus with about 30 different cars.
Part of what makes this fundraiser unique is that the goal is to stuff a bus full of toys and gifts for those families in need right in Cache Valley.
After the fundraiser on campus the donations will be taken to the local chapter of Sub-for-Santa who will distribute the donations.
“It’s just so wonderful to serve and to see that smile on others,” said Jaci Porter, a history education major and PR specialist for the center.
Much of the work from the Val R. Christensen Service Center is helping to link USU with the surrounding community.
But the need for service is year round, and though there is a surge in service near the holidays it is important to remember that people need help all year.
“Its true that there is a need for service year-round, but there are always people who are willing to serve,” said Taylor smiling. “I have had the most amazing experience meeting some of the most amazing people.”
