Multicultural students get new director after one-year search

After a one-year vacancy, Utah State University alum Moisés Diaz was hired as Utah State’s new Multicultural Student Services director. He will begin his new position this June and said he looks forward to the opportunity of returning to the university.

Diaz was hired May 17 by Vice President of Student Services Juan Franco, who feels the search committee made an excellent decision.

“I am delighted that Moisés will join us this summer as director of the Multicultural Student Services Center,” said Franco. “He brings a wealth of experience in working with multicultural students. I believe our students will find that he is very student-oriented and will enjoy working with him.

The New York-native graduated from Utah State in 1994 with a bachelor’s in social work, and received a master’s from Eastern Washington University in 2001, also in social work. Since June 1996, Diaz has been the Multicultural Coordinator at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.”I am excited to return to Utah State and the overwhelming Aggie pride there,” said Diaz. “I was first introduced to Utah State while attending Ricks (BYU-Idaho) and felt everyone was very friendly and exciting.

When he returns to Cache Valley in June, Diaz plans to first evaluate what has taken place in the Multicultural Office and make assessments from there to see what direction he and his staff will go.

“I would like to become more acquainted with the staff and students, and see how they have been running things before I decide what needs to happen,” he said. “They’ve been successfully running without a director for the last year and it will be a wonderful thing to be surrounded by such a competent staff.
