OUR VIEW: Instead of giving up, get going
It’s Jan. 22. That’s about the time New Year’s resolutions go out the window.
The smokers have thrown out their gum and patches, students have stopped doing their homework and dieters have had their first carbs since that beer on New Year’s Eve. Everyone slips up every once in a while and eats an entire chocolate cake, but remember, you can always pick up where you left off.
This week the Wellness Center is kicking off the second annual Wellness Challenge. This is an excellent opportunity for us Aggies to get out there and do something. This 12-week event will focus not only on physical exercise, but emotional, spiritual and social aspects of health as well.
Exercising and eating well is important to stay healthy, and starting while we are young is the best way to stay healthy throughout our lives.
Since the temperature outside is dropping and there is snow on the ground, that run in the park is looking a little less appealing. But remember, right now we have a unique opportunity. We have free – well, with student fees – access to a gym. When we leave school and start sitting at a desk eight hours a day, exercising will not be so easy. So take advantage of the resources that are available. Besides, if you’re running on a treadmill, it’s a lot easier to keep up with that hot guy you’ve been eyeing. There’s no reason not to take advantage.
So when you lose hope after you’ve eaten the entire box of Oreos, remember there is always tomorrow, and the Fieldhouse is open late, just like Wendy’s.
