OUR VIEW: There is stuff to do in Logan

“There’s nothing to do in Logan.”

You’ve heard someone say it and you’ve probably said it yourself. But, to say Cache Valley offers nothing for its residents is, at best, malarkey.

All the same, to ease the excruciating pain of a slow afternoon and maintain the sanity of the valley’s population, here are five easy steps to curing boredom.

Step One: The first step to curing boredom is admitting you have a problem. Remember, if you’re bored, you’re boring.

Step Two: Take action. Slowly lower the television remote control to the coffee table in front of you. In an effort to conserve energy and avoid costly utility bills, turn the television off first.

Step Three: Bend your arms at the elbows, while at the same time spreading your fingers apart with your palms facing down.

Step Four: The most physically demanding step, Step Four can also be the most rewarding. Push against the sofa creating a sufficient amount of space between your hindquarters and the cushions to stand up. If you can’t get up on your own, call and understanding friend or family member to help you.

Step Five: Go outside.

It may seem scary. It may seem difficult. But it’s worth it.

Try heading up Logan Canyon and exploring Wind Cave or Tony’s Grove.

Get out of Logan and experience some of the small-town atmosphere, big-time fun of events going on in neighboring towns and cities.

Go downtown and catch a movie or a play. Or take advantage of the almost nightly activities the university offers it students.

It’s not New York, but it isn’t Rexburg, Idaho, either. There’s fun to be had in Cache Valley. It’s just that it very seldom has anything to do with your television set.
