OUR VIEW: There’s plenty to do in Cache Valley
What is there to do in Logan?
“Not much” is a pretty common response – especially from those excusing their BYU or U of U attendance on the issue of weekend entertainment. But, that’s not entirely true. There are plenty of activities to take part in – even activities that don’t include Hastings, a couch and a VCR or DVD player that should work.
And, even though it is winter and lately “warm” is considered 20 degrees, there are a few outdoor activities around. Go sledding, ice skating or snowshoeing. There won’t be a chance to do those kinds of things in July. The great thing about Cache Valley is that while living in a city, the so-called wilderness is within five or 10 minutes from anywhere in Logan. Try driving up the canyon. First, Second and Third Dam offer great hikes. Tony Grove, up the canyon 18 miles, is beautiful in the summer and the winter. Willow Park Zoo offers wildlife that can never be seen during the summer.
But, if going outside isn’t a favorite, indoor activities abound. If you want movement, try the Cache Valley Fun Park, Bob’s Go-Carts, Logan Lanes or the old roller rink on 100 East and Center Street. Want to dance? Try Elite Hall, Skyline or the Fun Park. And, don’t even try to say there aren’t places to eat.
Other things can be found right on campus. Sporting events, concerts, plays, art exhibits and club activities are constantly happening. Just check out the Backburner or a-station.usu.edu.
Yeah, Logan’s not Salt Lake. But, for as many people who live in the valley, there sure are things to do. Take some pride in where you live – it’s not as bad as everyone may say.
