Our View: TSC is finally starting to look like a building for students
Walking into the Taggart Student Center at the beginning of this semester was quite a shock if you walked through the east doors by the University Inn. The building titled “Student Center” actually looked like a building for students.
With the Cashier’s office being moved into the same area as the Registrar’s office it opened up a large area for students to assemble. This area at one time used to be a student lounge but then was turned into the cashier’s office to expand office area. This only left a small area by the doors for students to relax and study.
With all the changes that took place over the summer in the TSC, it opened up a lot of area for students. It has now become a true area for the students. There are even more plans for expansion, with another student lounge planned for finish January 2005 behind the TSC Auditorium, where Student Support Services are now. With more plans in the future for expansion of student lounge areas it keeps the name true.
Despite these lounges being created to increase areas for students, it has still left plenty of area for daily operation offices for the university. There is still room for improvement but the administration has made significant steps to increase the students’ well-being. The students at USU still don’t have a true “student center” but things are looking up.
Those who made the decisions to expand student lounge areas need a pat on the back. They have made the big step toward creating areas for students to feel comfortable and get away from everything and relax and study.
