Quad Frustrations
The majority of our student body has now registered for classes for next semester. I would imagine that many experienced some of the frustrations I did. Seven a.m. the QUAD opens to allow students try to get into the classes that they need. Nearly an hour passed before I actually successfully logged in and started to register. The whole time I was attempting to use the QUAD, I had several thoughts going through my mind: “We have a freshman from a small farming town that made a nuclear fusion reactor. We have helped with the growth of wheat on the space lab. We beam a green laser into space, from a building on our own campus, to measure things in our atmosphere. We’ve successfully cloned a mule. So why can’t we do a simple task and adjust the capacity during the registration rush?”
We have 5,659 Seniors, 3,597 Juniors, 3,412 Sophomores, and 2,928 Freshmen (data from http://planning.usu.edu/Analysis/EnrolLevelTerm.asp) that may all be trying to register on their assigned day. Do we as students need to unite even more to have something done about the QUAD’s capacity? I say that we fix the QUAD to at least be able to handle at least 95% of each given class to register simultaneously! Granted I don’t know all of the reasons why capacity of the QUAD is the way it is, but I know for sure that we can do something about it if we can have other amazing advances in technology.
