Snow Removal in Parking Lots

mhansen@loganutah.org

So, as I have recently been performing my daily 32-point manuever to pull my standard cab truck into these severely shortened (insert choice word here) parking stalls, I wondered…is it too much to ask for Parking “Services” to go through the parking lots on a Friday afternoon or a Saturday and remove the snow banks that have been built up in the center of the stall sections? I know Parking “Services” has continually stated that they “are barely getting by” and do not have the funding for extras like more parking areas and proper maintenance of the lots, but come on…isn’t enough enough? The University owns and maintains front-end loaders, backhoes and several dump trucks, and most of the east bench, so there’s the equipment and the land needed for disposal…what’s the problem?

Furthermore, I don’t understand how money could even be an issue. I pay my $35 a year for my B pass that gets me a parking space most of the time, and $12 a pop for the parking tickets I get when I seek “alternate parking solutions.” So, where does all that money go? As a consumer, what am I buying? A service? Why don’t I feel like I’m getting a reasonable return on my purchse? Should there not be a plan in place to deal with this situation? Is it that surprising to actually receive snow during the winter months? Who really killed JFK? Will anything change?

Warmest Regards,
