Their losing it
I keep hearing these blips on the news and it is driving me crazy that there isn’t more being said.
On Monday I heard the most amazing thing, anti-war protesters were being arrested outside the White House. This wouldn’t be as amazing if it weren’t for the fact that Cindy Sheehan, the protesting mother of a fallen soldier, was arrested in the mix. What happened here? I know they didn’t have a permit to protest, but why should you need one unless you are blocking a street or harming others in some way. This seemed to me to be a blatant attempt to silence the opposition. It even brought thoughts of Joe Hill during the labor movement or the scene from the HBO movie Iron Jawed Angles where Alice Paul, a women’s suffrage leader, was taken to jail from the gate of the White House. I just wish I could have heard more.
The next thing I heard was that House majority leader Tom Delay was indicted Wednesday for criminal conspiracy. It seems there is enough evidence to convince a grand jury that this matter should go to trial. The story here is that there is evidence to believe that Delay took money from corporations and gave it to other republican candidates to help them win in Texas, a violation of Texas law. But of course the republican controlled government can’t charge him with the actual crime that was committed, but I guess conspiracy is good enough.
These are just a few of the stories that I have heard in the last few days that concern me. What’s happening here, have these people in government gotten too comfortable to abide by the law of the state that they are from? Or is the house of cards falling as evidenced by the arrest of Cindy Sheehan? Either way is this the government the people want? I challenge everyone reading this to try to discover an alternative to the current situation, study the News blips and let’s move forward and be a progressive country once again.
