University Inn spotlights its makeover
After a year of renovation University Inn celebrated its grand reopening Monday at a reception to showcase the new look of the facility.
University students, faculty and community members got a look at the rooms which all received new carpet, color schemes and design, furnishings and amenities such as high speed internet access, small refrigerator and a microwave.
“The mission of University Inn is to provide really pleasant lodging conditions so we wanted to upgrade to provide even better conditions,” Leila Neilson general manager said.
The complete renovation of the facility took about a year, Neilson said, but was divided into two phases keeping half the rooms available for use at a time.
The Inn has 60 classic rooms, 12 deluxe traveler suites and two grand suits. The Inn also has conference rooms and a guest lounge, all that have been redone.
The celebration began with a ribbon cutting ceremony and then reception guests were allowed to take a look at the new rooms and hear about the Inn’s history.
“We’ve had a pretty big crowd,” said Ellen Nelson, a freshman majoring in nutrition, who helped at the reception.
Guests were also invited to fill out comment forms expressing their views on the new design and renovation.
“Some of the comments have been ‘great 25 years,’ ‘looks great,’ ‘the rooms are beautiful,'” Stephanie Pettingill the front office manager, said. “They’ve all been really positive.”
The year-long project was funded by University Inn funds because the Inn is completely self supported, Neilson said. The rooms were designed by Michele Dunker and construction done by Bailey Construction.
Patrons who stay at the University Inn also receive a token for a free scoop of Aggie Ice Cream as well as enjoy staying right on campus.
