USU Volleyball falls to UVU in straight sets
The USU women´s volleyball team visited UVU last night in a match that had various different twists and turns throughout.
In the first two sets the Aggies jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead. They managed to hold their first set lead early on, only to fall victim to a 12-4 run from the hometown Wolverines on their way to dropping the first set 25-21. The second set proved to be much of the same, but the Aggies weren’t able to string together enough stops in the midst of another UVU run. USU kept it close the whole time and lost the set 25-20, but didn’t command the lead as much as they did in the opening set.
In the third and final set of the evening, the Aggies played with what seemed to be a dashed sense of confidence after losing the two previous sets despite holding early leads. They simply couldn’t get much going as they dropped the survive-and-advance set, 25-9.
The Aggies looked like a good team for most of the match but showed trouble closing out sets and getting stops when they needed them most. UVU transfer Izzie Hinton-Belnap looked good for the Aggies, finishing with five kills and a trio of blocks. Sophomore Gabbi Shumway also looked as though she could be a bright spot going forward, tallying eight kills and 10 digs in the loss.
