Is Bob Knight the best coach ever?

Bob Knight has a lot of wins, but along with those wins comes a lot of baggage (chair throwing, choking players, outbursts toward fans and media, etc.). Even without Knights antics, it would be tough to say he is better than legendary UCLA coach John Wooden. Wooden coached for 29 years, as compared to Knight’s 40, and had a winning percentage of 80. In an unprecedented run, Wooden’s teams won seven straight national championships, including two back-to-back undefeated seasons. In all, he won a total of nine championships and is known as the greatest teacher, mentor and classy guy college basketball has ever known.

Was the Giants winning the Super Bowl the biggest Super Bowl upset ever?

Absolutely. The Patriots were big favorites and came into the Super Bowl with a perfect record, winning more games going into the big game than any other team had ever had entering Super Bowl Sunday. That’s really enough said. The Giants beat a team that was a win away from perfection. Nobody thought they had any chance at pulling off the upset, and they simply went out there and out-physicalled the Patriots, who were looking to solidify their position as the greatest dynasty in NFL history.

What does the Patriots’ loss do for their legacy?

It absolutely vaults them into history, maybe even more than if they had won the game. The Patriots will forever be known as the team that swept through the regular season and the playoffs while setting all kinds of records along the way, only to fall to a inferior foe. The Patriots went from a team that was on the brink of perfection to a bunch of bitter and classless players (That’s obviously an over generalization. Some of the players took the defeat with grace.) who followed the lead of their pathetic coach and wouldn’t even stay on the field for the final play of the game.

Biggest All-Star snub?

As a Jazz fan, I have to vote for Morris Almond on this one. He keeps putting up 50 point games in the NBA Developmental League, but gets no respect from Jerry Sloan. No, but seriously, Deron Williams got snubbed big time, and he is going to let the rest of the league know about it, not verbally to the media and fans, but he’ll do his talking on the court. The Western Conference coaches selected Hornets guard Chris Paul over Williams, and the Jazz man made it an effort to let everyone know his feelings about that Monday night. Williams line: 29 points on 11-13 shooting, 11 assists in a huge Jazz win. Paul on the other hand: six points, six assists, five fouls and five turnovers. Nothing more needs to be said.

Thoughts on Nevada coach Mark Fox

I’m continually amazed at what this guy is able to get away with. It seems he is always running onto the court or doing something to make himself look like a fool. Did you see Saturday night’s game? At one point, he actually interfered with the game play and grabbed the basketball before a hustling Kris Clark could attempt to save the ball back inbounds. Then he tries to play it off and be buddy-buddy with Clark by giving him a half hug and a pat on the back. Fox as great as a coach, he may or may not be, but he needs to stop whining when every little thing doesn’t go his way.

Rant

In a not surprising way, Utah State students continue to show why the Aggies have the best fans in the world. Since the Western Athletic Conference came down with an ax on the word ‘suck’ during games at the Spectrum, students have remarkably cut down on chants involving the banned word, which from what I hear is more than can be said by other schools in the WAC. Students may not like or agree with the ban, but I think the fact that we are hearing it less is a testament to the program and tradition that is Utah State basketball. Fans have still been rowdy and obnoxious, and opposing teams are still getting frustrated and losing games in Logan. Go Aggies.
