LETTER: Controversy is now out of proportion
Dear Statesman,
I’m writing about the ad in page 10 for the Persian Peacock, and all the controversy it has stirred among some students in USU.
It is my opinion that this “pornography” issue has been blown way out of proportion. You can see worse things than that in your everyday TV, say for example this video I just watched, “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk”, or the new Pizza Hut ad with Jessica Simpson and her way-too-short shorts… Even in USU’s sports games: there was a girl near the music band that was defying the cold in those gym shorts in the last Aggies vs. Louisiana Tech BB game, AND NOBODY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THAT! I know I may not be the best one at expressing my opinions in English (pardon me, it’s not my primary language), but given the wide diversity of people now studying in USU, I think maybe this is just another way for the Statesman to reflect this diversity of opinions and views of life that you can now see everyday in our college.
OK, I understand that most of the population here are Mormons, therefore more conservative than we are about the things you see in the media; but then you also should consider that we do cope with most of the things you do that we find odd. So for the mutual tolerance that should reign between all of us, just relax a little about the ad and allow us to enjoy something different in our paper.
